As a transitional model, it’s a piece which saw the end of the 168.. references and the beginning of the 16610 references. The reference 168000 was made for a very short period of time between 1987-1988 for an estimated 7-9 months. Considered to be a very rare piece on account of its short run and the improvements made to the watch. One of these upgrades was the stainless-steel they used on the case and bracelet, prior to this model Rolex were using grade 316L, the 168000 was produced in grade 904L. With the release of the reference 16610, Rolex introduced the new and improved cal. 3135.
