The Rolex Datejust is the ‘poster boy’ for Rolex. Globally recognised as one of the most popular watches in the world and most certainly one of the most versatile. As a luxury watch it can be worn by anyone, for any occasion and at an achievable price point for a watch of its quality. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, since its release in 1945, has seen a multitude of different case materials from stainless steel to platinum, dial variations of every colour under the sun, set in an array of different styles, bezel variations and repeatedly improved mechanics. Whether you like the model or not, there is no denying that a Rolex Datejust is the definition of a ‘timeless watch’.

This particular reference is a 1630, which has an incredibly well-kept clean champagne dial with gold ‘stick’ hour markers, a graduated raised minute track with lume plots, an ‘open six’ date aperture at 3 o’clock and gold hour, minute and central seconds hand. The distinctive gold bezel is mounted on the stainless-steel oyster case which has remained in great condition. Fitted with a steel and gold Rolex 96673 bracelet. Inside is the automatic Rolex calibre 1570 movement, first introduced in 1965 which ran until the mid-70s. As opposed to its counterparts’ smooth silhouette, the ref. 1630 has a squared off finish which, in keeping with the general aesthetic of the watch, continues through to the bracelet. This watch is a great example of a true vintage wristwatch with an amazing design.

This piece is in great overall condition; the dial is clean along with the crystal. The gold hour, minute and central seconds all remain in good condition along with the raised stick hour markers. The gold bezel is well-kept; the 36mm case is showing some light hairline scratches but no significant damage. Housed behind the case back the movement is running well and keeping good time. The bracelet has some light hairline scratches but is still in great physical and structural condition.
